Email Verification Tools That Actually Integrate With Your ESP

You buy a list. You import it into Mailchimp on a Tuesday morning, hit send on a campaign that took a week to build, and by lunchtime the bounce counter has gone somewhere you have never seen it go. Mailchimp documents what happens next on its own bounce suspension page: sending privileges get pulled and the account goes under review. Klaviyo runs similar anti-abuse and campaign performance monitoring, and its help center is blunt about accounts that keep sending to addresses that do not exist.

So you go shopping for an email verification tool. And every comparison ranks them on 2 things: price per 1000 verifications, and an accuracy percentage the vendor calculated itself. Both are useless for the decision you are actually making, which is whether the thing fits the platform you already send from.

I read vendor documentation and ESP marketplace listings instead of pricing pages. The gap between what an integration page promises and what the integration does is wider than I expected.

The 3 things a vendor can mean by “integration”

When a verification tool puts a Klaviyo logo on its website, it means one of these:

  • Real two-way sync. The tool pulls contacts out of your ESP, verifies them, and writes the result back onto the existing records as a property, a tag or a suppression. It then keeps doing this on a schedule or on new contacts, without you clicking anything.
  • Clean-on-import hook. You connect the account, pick a list, verify it, and push something back. But the push back creates a new list rather than updating the records you already have, and nothing happens again until you repeat the whole thing manually.
  • Dressed-up CSV export. There is a logo, and behind it a Zapier recipe or an API you wire yourself. The data still leaves and re-enters your ESP as a file or a webhook you built.

All 3 can be the right choice. A cold outbound list you touch twice a year does not need a live sync. An ecommerce list collecting signups every hour does. The problem is that vendors describe all 3 with the same word.

CaptainVerify

CaptainVerify is worth opening with because it is the clearest case of documentation not matching what review sites say about it. Several French comparison sites state that it ships native connectors for Salesforce, HubSpot and Mailchimp. I could not confirm that on CaptainVerify’s own site. There is no integrations page (the URL returns a 404), and the FAQ mentions Mailchimp only to explain the Omnivore warning you get when importing a verified list, and how role addresses cause it.

What the documentation does cover, clearly: an email verification API, an HLR lookup API for mobile numbers, a file sending API that accepts CSV and XLSX, and real-time verification you can put on a signup form so a bad address never enters your database.

That last one matters more than a list connector. Verification at the point of capture is the only approach that stops the problem instead of cleaning up after it, and CaptainVerify documents it properly. But for Mailchimp, Brevo, Klaviyo and HubSpot specifically, what I can verify is the API path plus file import and export. If you want a connector you click rather than code, assume you are building it or running it through Zapier until CaptainVerify publishes an integrations page saying otherwise.

ZeroBounce

ZeroBounce has the widest spread of integration depth of anything here, and the spread is not obvious from its integrations page.

HubSpot is the deep one. ZeroBounce’s documentation says it automatically imports all email lists found in the CRM, adds a validation status value to each contact listing, and then automatically exports the validation results back to HubSpot. It also validates new addresses as they are added, and you can schedule re-validation of a list on a fixed interval. That is a real two-way sync, and it is the only one of the 4 ESPs where ZeroBounce documents write-back onto individual contact records.

Mailchimp is genuinely connected too. The integration uses OAuth2, so ZeroBounce never stores your credentials, it imports only contacts whose status is subscribed (unsubscribed, cleaned and pending are skipped), and Mailchimp’s own directory listing describes it re-exporting the cleaned list back into Mailchimp.

Klaviyo has a listed app in the Klaviyo App Marketplace, and the ZeroBounce page describes automatic list import plus a cleaning schedule you set in days. What the page does not describe is whether validation results are written onto Klaviyo profiles the way they are onto HubSpot contacts. I am not going to assume it.

Brevo is the one that surprised me. ZeroBounce’s own Brevo page says “Automate ZeroBounce and Brevo using Zapier” and talks about setting up Zaps. That is a Zapier recipe with a logo on top, and it sits in a different category from the HubSpot connector on the same website.

Kickbox

Kickbox blocks automated readers on its own domain, so I could not read its documentation directly. Everything below comes from sources I could open.

The HubSpot App Marketplace listing is real and published by Kickbox, Inc. HubSpot’s listing shows the app working with contact properties, email events and contact lists, which is the permission set you would expect from something that writes results back onto records rather than handing you a file. HubSpot’s own marketplace is the primary source here, not Kickbox marketing.

For Mailchimp, Klaviyo and Brevo, Kickbox and various review sites claim native in-app integrations that verify contacts without exporting to CSV. I have no primary source for the mechanism. A vendor that blocks crawlers is a vendor whose claims you have to verify inside a trial account, so budget an afternoon for that before you commit.

Emailable

Emailable documents its Klaviyo and HubSpot integrations properly, and the documentation reveals something the marketing pages do not.

The flow is the same for both platforms. You grant access, Emailable prompts you to select a list from your existing contacts, you import it, you verify it, and then you open the Exports tab and choose which verification categories to include. You click Send To Klaviyo or Send To HubSpot.

Here is the part that changes the calculus: Emailable’s documentation states that the selected emails are added to a new list in your account. Export only the deliverable addresses and they land in a fresh list. Nothing in the documentation describes updating, tagging or suppressing the profiles you already have. Your original dirty list is still sitting there, still segmentable, still sendable by anyone on your team who does not know about the new one.

That is a clean-on-import hook with a push-back, not a sync. It works fine if your process is to send from the new list and archive the old one. It goes wrong quietly if your automations reference the original.

Mailchimp and Brevo both appear in Emailable’s integration directory, and Brevo lists Emailable in its own marketplace, but neither side documents the mechanism.

Bouncer

Bouncer is the only tool here that publishes a per-contact write-back field by name, which is why I trust its Klaviyo integration more than most.

2 options exist after verification. You can export clean data back to Klaviyo from the completed verification row, removing whichever groups you choose (undeliverable, disposable and so on). Or you can use Add Recommendations, which enriches Klaviyo contacts with 2 custom properties, bouncer_recommends and bouncer_recommends_update_at. Once those exist on the profile you can build segments and flows on top of them, which is what a sync is actually for.

AutoClean goes further. It re-verifies lists on a schedule, checks new contacts hourly, and applies rules that mark contacts as Keep, Suppress or Quarantine. AutoClean supports HubSpot and Klaviyo. It does not currently support Mailchimp.

The Mailchimp integration itself is the older shape: go to Verify List, click Mailchimp Import, pick the audience, process it, export the clean data back. Connection is by Mailchimp login or API key. There is a cap of 10000 emails per imported list, which is a real constraint if your audience is bigger than that and nobody mentions it until you hit it.

Brevo appears in both Bouncer’s directory and Brevo’s marketplace. Neither documents what the connector does.

NeverBounce

NeverBounce also blocks direct fetching, so this section leans on indexed copies of its own pages and on HubSpot community threads rather than a live read of the docs.

The relevant product is Sync, which connects to Mailchimp, HubSpot and ActiveCampaign and verifies on a daily schedule without manual CSV handling. On the HubSpot side, NeverBounce creates a property called neverbouncevalidationresult to store the outcome (valid, invalid, disposable, catchall, unknown). A named property on the contact record plus a daily cadence is the definition of a two-way sync, and it is the strongest thing NeverBounce has.

Klaviyo shows up in NeverBounce’s marketing copy and in third party roundups, but not in the Sync platform list I could verify. Brevo has a NeverBounce page in its marketplace with no mechanism described on it. Treat both as unconfirmed.

Clearout

Clearout does the thing on Mailchimp that most competitors stop short of. After validation, you choose how to export back: unsubscribe, append, or both. Choosing unsubscribe removes the non-deliverable addresses from the Mailchimp list itself, so the audience you already have gets fixed rather than duplicated. Setup is account connection, then pick the audience, then Import.

The HubSpot integration is the most interesting one in this whole comparison because it is not list-shaped at all. Clearout runs as an action inside HubSpot Workflows, triggered when a record is created or when an email address changes. It auto-creates properties including Safe-to-Send and Verification Status, grouped under Clearout Information, and you can branch a workflow on the result. There are separate integrations for HubSpot Forms and Chatflows, which catch bad addresses at the point of entry.

Klaviyo appears in Clearout’s directory and Clearout has published a guide on removing invalid emails from Klaviyo, but I found no integration document describing a connector. Brevo is listed under its old Sendinblue name with no mechanism given.

The pattern that jumps out: HubSpot is where the real engineering went. It has an app marketplace with a review process and an API that lets a third party create and write contact properties, and 5 of the 7 tools here have something substantial on it. Brevo is the opposite. Every vendor lists it, Brevo lists every vendor back, and almost nobody documents what happens when you connect the 2.

Frequently asked questions

Does a two-way sync remove contacts from my list automatically?

Usually not by default. Bouncer’s AutoClean applies Keep, Suppress or Quarantine rules once you configure them. Clearout on Mailchimp gives you an explicit unsubscribe option at export time. ZeroBounce on HubSpot writes a status onto the contact and leaves the decision to you. Deletion is almost always a choice you make, which is the correct design.

Is verifying at signup better than cleaning a list?

They solve different problems and most serious setups run both. Real-time verification on the form stops typos and disposable addresses from entering. CaptainVerify, ZeroBounce and Clearout all document this path. Periodic list cleaning handles addresses that were valid when captured and have since been abandoned, which no signup check can predict.

Why do so many tools push results into a new list instead of updating the old one?

Writing a custom property onto every profile requires deeper API permissions and more engineering than creating a list and dumping addresses into it. Creating a list is a single API call. That is why the new-list pattern is common and why you should check for it before assuming your existing segments got cleaned.

My ESP is Brevo. What should I do?

Ask the vendor directly what the Brevo connector does before paying, because none of them document it. If the answer is Zapier, price the Zapier task volume into your budget, since verifying 50000 contacts through a per-task automation platform costs more than the verification credits do.

Should I trust a vendor’s published accuracy rate?

Not without testing it yourself. Every accuracy number in this market is self-reported and measured against a test set the vendor chose. Run the same sample of 1000 known addresses through 2 or 3 tools during their free tiers and compare what comes back. That number is worth more than any figure on a pricing page.
